Can I recover for scarring and disfigurement in my burn case in New York?

The law does recognize that scarring and disfigurement is a significant element of damage that a person can suffer, and accordingly there can be compensation for that. The amount of the compensation depends on the specifics of the burn area and the scarring, so obviously a scar or burn on the face is much more significant than, say, a burn on a leg, unless it's in a very prominent area. It also depends on the degree of the burn area, so the bigger the scarring, the bigger the disfigurement, obviously, the more value it has to compensate for that.
